So far so good for the campaign?

The BBC, Guardian and Metro all report today that Killing in the Name Of is outselling the X Craptor song, or at least giving it a close battle.

The Guardian story doesn’t think the momentum will last all the week though. Metal Hammer is sounding sceptical too.

Everyone has been talking about it though. A political party has even been sending encouragements around one of its mailing lists (inspired by Mark Steel in The Independent).

There’s still a lot of time, and some sites will let you download Killing in the Name Of for as little as 79p. So get on with it.

Obviously RATM would be the first metal band to ever make Christmas number one if they did it, but this has got me thinking. Which metal bands/songs have ever made number one in the charts at all?

I can only think of three (if you call them all metal):
Iron Maiden – Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter
Evanescence – Bring me to Life
Limp Bizkit – Rollin’

Can anyone else think of any other metal songs that have hit the top of the UK charts?
