A barn-storming tour-de-force that will make you head-bang and sing along in equal measure.

I have to confess to an epic fail on the whole being a metalhead front. I had never listened to a Dillinger Escape Plan album before this week.

The main reason why this appears to be an epic fail is because the self-released Option Paralysis is absolutely brilliant.

If just listening to the insane timing during the heavy bits and wondering how they can pull it off isn’t enough fun, the choruses sung by Greg Puciato are absolutely epic. Farewell Mona Lisa, Gold Teeth on a Bum and Widower get stuck in your head for days.

Having heard excerpts of their stuff over the years I guess I just never particularly thought that their style would flow as an album, but flow it does, all the way up to the last bars of emotional (and awesome) Parasitic Twins.

And rumour has it that they will be announced to be playing at the Download Festival this Monday.

Rating: 4.4 out of 5.

The Dillinger Escape Plan – Option Paralysis is out now on Party Smasher Inc. (their own label imprint).
